The formula
CTR (link) = link clicks / impressionsCTR (all) = all clicks / impressionsAn Acme Watches video gets 50,000 impressions, 600 link clicks and 1,500 clicks of all kinds. Link CTR is 600 / 50,000 = 1.2%, and CTR (all) is 1,500 / 50,000 = 3.0%. A teammate quoting 3% and another quoting 1.2% are describing the same ad.
Why it matters
CTR shows whether the ad moves people to act once it has stopped them. Link CTR is the one that leads to sales; CTR (all) mixes in engagement that may never reach the store. A falling CTR on a steady audience is also one of the first signs of fatigue.
How to improve it
Make the next step obvious: a clear offer, a call to action that matches what happens after the click, and a reason to click now. Test calls to action and opening lines, and use link CTR rather than CTR (all) when judging the change.
