Meta's spec for this placement

Specs from Meta's Ads Guide, checked 2026-10-21. Meta changes them, so check the linked page before a big launch.

Four checks, every placement.

A file passes a placement when its ratio, width, size and (for video) length are all on spec. Off-ratio files still run, they just get cropped or framed.

Aspect ratio = width / height (4:5 = 0.80, 9:16 = 0.5625, 1.91:1 = 1.91)
Safe area (9:16) = frame minus 14% top, 35% bottom, 6% each side

Pass, works, fix first

Pass: on spec. Works, not ideal: Meta takes it, but recommends another ratio or a larger size. Fix first: under the minimum width, over the file size, or outside the accepted range or length.

Why the safe zones matter

On Reels and Stories the caption, buttons and profile cover the top and bottom of the frame. Text or a product shot in those areas gets hidden.

The specs, placement by placement.

Read from Meta's Ads Guide on 2026-10-21. Where Meta gives a recommended ratio but no accepted range, the checker warns instead of failing.

How Fovea does it

Every format, one library.

Upload 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1 cuts of the same idea and Fovea keeps them side by side, tagged with their hook, style and on-screen text, so the right version is one search away.

Questions, answered.

What size should a Meta ad be?+

For Facebook and Instagram Feed images, Meta's Ads Guide recommends 4:5 at 1440 x 1800 pixels. For Stories and Reels it recommends 9:16 at 1440 x 2560. Check the table on this page for each placement.

What are the Reels safe zones?+

Meta's guide says to keep about 14.000000000000002% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side free of text, logos and other key elements, because the interface covers those areas. Turn on the overlay in the checker to see them on your file.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?+

No. The checker reads the file's width, height, size and length in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so it works for unreleased creative too.

Can I run a 1:1 image in feed?+

Instagram Feed accepts ratios from 4:5 to 1.91:1, so 1:1 runs. Meta recommends 4:5 because it takes more of the screen, so the checker marks 1:1 as works, not ideal.

How current are these specs?+

They were read from Meta's Ads Guide on 2026-10-21. Meta changes them from time to time; every placement card links to Meta's page so you can check before a big launch.

On spec is step one.
Selling is step two.

Fovea links each creative to its Meta spend and the Shopify product it sells, so you know which version actually worked.
